Trastevere between St. Angelo Castle and the Jews Ghetto
If you already know and visited the highlights of Rome, another memorable “off-the-beaten-tracks” tour can guide you to visit:
the St. Angel Castel, the ancient Popes’ shelter, Trastevere and the Tiberina Island plus one of the most impressive views of Rome from the Gianicolo Hill with the famous cannon shot.
Along the Tiber river through the heart of Rome you’ll encounter many interesting sites and monuments of the other Rome. Up until the construction of the embankments, in the late 19th Century, it was completely navigable and characterized by an unending sequence of buildings that faced onto and were reflected by its waters. The river was used for fishing, bathing; the water was used to drink and for motive power. We will see the Isola Tiberina, which was of exceptional importance in the history of the birth and development of Rome.
Trastevere is rione XIII of Rome and means literally, “beyond the Tiber.”
Very rich in history, Trastevere with it’s narrow, winding streets, diversity of nightlife and hidden archaeological gems, now houses an international body of artists, students and expatriates who love the area’s rich scenery and abundant secrets. Let’s not talk about the dozens of restaurants, trattoria and pizzeria!
